The team has built a culture of encouraging one another. Older players help the younger ones. Youth remind each other to use positive language. Coach Manoj uses MI practices to help players find their own motivation to grow.

Communication

We're replacing putdowns, body comments, and shouting with good questions, dialogue, and listening.
Even in English! (A second, third, or fourth language for the coach and all the players so far).

Sportsmanship

instead of rivalry
We practice respect for opposing teams.

Let's say a player keeps making the same mistake. Here, we start with questions:
"What did you see there? What were you trying to do?"
 
The player names the problem first, before seeing the fix.
This way, the solution belongs to the player, not to the coach.

Coaches and volunteers learn: don't be frustrated with your players.
There is a great deal going on in these young lives, and they are only just starting to learn.

The team equipment doesn't live in the garage. It goes home with the players. Practice happens once a week, but they play all week, at whatever park they can get to, and come back Tuesday wanting to show what they have been working on. Kit locked away six days out of seven is no use to anyone.

Talented players from around the region visit to share what they're best at: a batter to work on batting, a keeper behind the stumps. They're here to share their knowledge with the next generation of cricketers.

Bridging gaps

and creating welcome
English is a second (or third, fourth, fifth...) language for the coach and all the players so far. Everyone's story is unique. On and off the field, players practice respect for one another, and find space to bring everything they have to offer.
